The Ministry of Power, Government of India has launched the National Energy Labeling Scheme on 18 May, 2006. The scheme has been introduced on a voluntary basis for home appliances sold in India.

The manufacturers /suppliers of the appliances can participate in the scheme by registering with the bureau of  Energy Efficiency. The details of  the scheme and schedule for the appliances can be downloaded at www.bee-india.nic.in  and www.energymanagertraining.com

 

The energy labeling scheme is applicable for the following appliances

1. Frost free (no frost) refrigerators

2. Tubular  Fluorescent lamps (1200 mm - 40 W, 36 W, 36W High Lumen)

3. Air-conditioners (Window & Split  up to 3 ton)

4. Direct Cool refrigerators


The Bureau of  Energy Efficiency (BEE) label  follows a star system to rate gadgets on energy efficiency - the most energy efficient gadget have 5 stars and the least energy efficient gadget has a single star. The gadgets are tested as per the relevant IS specification.

 

Tips to save energy are:

1. Use CFL instead of conventional bulbs

2. Use electronic chokes in place of ordinary chokes in tubelights

3. Use a table lamp for reading

4. Keep lamps and light fixtures dust free

5. Wash full loads on your washing machine.
